THE KOHA PROJECT

Community powered. Compassion led.

The Koha Project provides reusable pad kits to mothers and girls in Haiti, meeting both urgent and ongoing needs with dignity and care.

Why We Exist

What started as a postpartum care project quickly grew. In rural Haiti, where maternal and infant mortality rates are among the highest in the Western Hemisphere, we began by sewing reusable pad kits to support mothers after birth - offering care, comfort, and dignity in a setting where access to postpartum supplies is rare. But in the face of crisis and displacement, our mission expanded. As gang violence escalated, women and girls fled their homes, some walking for days to find safety. We shifted to meet this urgent need, adding basic hygiene essentials like toothpaste, toothbrush and soap to our Pad kits. Our kits, sewn by volunteers, now include basic hygiene essentials and are delivered by hand, and sometimes by mule, to the women and girls who need them most. Whether postpartum or displaced, every woman deserves care.
